"Through my "classical and realist" portraits, executed in charcoal, I seek to penetrate the heart and soul of my subjects.
I draw accurately and precisely the image that nature offers me and through their facial expressions I extract, and express in my drawing, the feelings and moods that are buried in each person – the remoteness and reserve of an adolescent, the concerns and anxiety of a youth, the enthusiasm and confidence of a child, the fragility and assurance of a young girl.
I work only with live models. This approach challenges and enables me to capture all those details and those tones of shadow and light that I would never discover if I worked from a simple photograph.
I redraw a line or a tone a hundred times if necessary, until I achieve the perfect proportions, until I have reflected in my drawing the soul and breath of the life behind the physical form of my subject's face. A change of one millimeter in a line can change completely the expression, the mood of the individual.
An essential element of my work is time – the time to observe, the time to capture a mood, a spirit. I invest my heart and soul, my time not my limit.
I execute my portraits on commission in my studio situated on Lake Leman, in Switzerland."
